16 Crimson 40ml
OverviewPR83 - Transparent
Crimson is a transparent dark red color. It used to be an expensive pigment but unfortunately not lightfast, that is to say: it faded in the sunlight. Despite these disadvantages, crimson was a widely used pigment until a crimson imitation appeared on the market at the end of the 19th century. The official name for imitation squid is synthetic alizarin. This is 40 times cheaper than the natural pigment and it is much more lightfast, but still transparent. It is not surprising that the cultivation of madder (from which the original crimson is made) declined sharply after this.
